The Way We Do Things Curriculum

In the Pre-School, a language-rich environment is created where the children have an opportunity to participate in oral communication, to develop listening skills, to be exposed to many forms of literature, and to express themselves through their drawings and words.

Stories, rhymes and common sayings are introduced as a means to strengthen their vocabulary and encourage imagination.

Handwriting techniques and the basic rules of spelling are introduced from the start. Early grammar skills are taught through direct instruction.

We believe that technology may well alter the ways of reading but can never altogether replace the pleasure of reading a good book. We nurture love for reading and books right from the beginning of the schooling experience.

The Pre-schoolers work with various materials as they experiment and take up the challenge through different art projects. They learn about the basic elements of art including colour theory, lines and shapes, patterns and textures, and types and uses of art. Their knowledge of art expands as they try out sculpture, fabric-weaving and print-making.

Through participation, the children become familiar with rhythm, melody, harmony, form, and timbre. They listen and learn to recognize the sounds of different musical instruments. They learn to sing many familiar children’s songs and relate them to dance movements or gestures.

Physical education teaches students the basic lesson on health. They develop gross motor skills and also begin learning the fundamental rules of the games, along with the sense of co-operation, leadership skills and team spirits.
